Buying Solar on Value vs Price
Looking at a solar system for your home may seem daunting at times. You check out different panels, types of inverters, where you want to put the panels, how you want to go about purchasing them, and that is all before choosing a good company to install it for you. So when you are doing your research, you should ask yourself this question…what is more important? Value or Price?
You Get What You Pay For
At this moment you might be thinking…both are important! Of course, both are important. Everyone understands that you should get a great value at a great price, but we all know that those two don’t always positively correlate. What we mean by this is simple, you’ve probably heard the phrase “you get what you pay for”. This single phrase spans across so many areas of life it is mind boggling the amount of times you will hear people say that phrase. Whether you are buying a car, dishware, clothing, your bed mattress, or your solar system; the same phrase applies.
Let Us Explain
Let’s break this down further. When you are looking at solar panels, you probably Google solar panels and see a plethora of manufacturers and models on the market. Some panels cost a few hundred dollars and some are double. The same goes for their warranties. The lower quality panels will have a 5 maybe 10 year warranty, whereas the higher quality more expensive panels will have a 20 year warranty. The same goes for the other equipment needed in a solar system. But the biggest difference between any solar system install will ultimately come down to the workmanship.
Give Me an Example
Let’s give a unique example; you hire two people to paint a portrait of you and your pet. The first person is a regular at those wine and paint style classes. This person might have some decent skills and can make a rather compelling photo of a scene with object such as trees and landscape. When you ask this amateur painter to do a portrait of you and your pet, they do their best but more likely than not, it will look just OK. For some people, this option is great! It was inexpensive and they received what they asked for which was a painting of them and their pet. But then you ask a professional painter who specializes in realistic portraits for people all over the world. They have years of experience and guarantee that if you don’t like how you look, then they will redo the painting until it’s perfect for you and them. This professional painter of course costs more money, but you and your pet look amazing! So much that you decide to frame it and hang it inside your home for all to see. This is the difference in price and value where the more the painter costs you, the more value you will get in return.
How About Solar
For solar the scenario isn’t too dissimilar. You could hire a company who uses day laborers to help install a solar system and you probably could save a lot of money in labor costs…but is that what you want? The other option is to go with a company who stands behind their products and their installations. This type of company has warranties for every aspect of the job from the products, to the workmanship, to roof leaks, and more. We are not saying one is right and the other is wrong, but we are saying that getting great value does come at a price. From what customers have found, that value is worth every penny.
Things to Think About
So as you go and investigate who you want to handle your solar installation, think about what they are offering. Look at how they price their systems and what comes with that system.
